Why I use tumblr.
(note: This post is a work in progress. I’ll be adding to and editing it until I’m happy with it.) ;)
I’ve been wanting to keep a regular blog for years now, but what stopped me was the complexity involved in setting one up. Even blogger, which I consider to be the simplest of the big blogging services, is a bit clunky for my taste, and as a result, I never really blogged all that much there.
Then, sometime last spring, I found tumblr. As you can tell from my archive, I apparently forgot about it, too. Then in October, I found it again, and I’ve been using it constantly ever since. The main reason: it’s easy to post to from my iPhone, which I’ve had since July.
Of course, it hasn’t hurt that I’ve been out of work for a couple of weeks with nothing better to do than blog, but I’m fairly confident that even after I get back into the full swing of things next week, I’ll keep on utilizing tumblr quite extensively for my blogging.
It’s just so damn easy, especially from my iPhone. I snap a photo, I tap to email it to my tumblr address, add a caption via the subject line, tap send, and *poof* - it’s online. I can pull up the tumblr dashboard and add whatever else I want, be it video, links, a thought, or now even audio.
And as of today, tumblr has been improved. I’ve already changed my template, and I’m looking forward to exploring all the new services and improvements tumblr 3.0 has to offer (I’ve already used the new Archive service in one of the links above). I’m already checking out vimeo (I’m even uploading some old silly videos I did about 5 years ago to the service to test it).
