Update: for anyone reading this who still smokes — PLEASE consider doing whatever it takes to quit; witnessing the long, slow death of my mother is an experience I wouldn’t wish on anyone.
Clarification: Mom seems like she’ll come out of this one OK; by “long, slow death of my mother,” I mean that all her health problems are due to smoking.
